Eight-Year-Old Anvi Hinge Shines with Six Medals at Western Asian Youth Chess Championship

Eight-year-old chess prodigy Anvi Deepak Hinge from Maharashtra has brought glory to India, winning an impressive six medals—two golds and four silvers—at the 2025 Western Asian Youth Chess Championships in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. Competing in the Under-8 Girls category, her stellar performance contributed to India’s overall haul of 31 medals at the event and cemented her place among the country’s most promising young chess talents.

Anvi struck gold in the Team Classical and Team Rapid events, while securing silver medals in Individual Classical, Rapid, Blitz, and Team Blitz categories.

Her chess journey began at just four years old, encouraged by her parents and guided by FIDE Instructor Pratik Mulay. By 2025, she had already earned strong FIDE ratings—1474 in standard, 1620 in rapid, and 1531 in blitz. Before her latest international triumph, she finished as the second runner-up in the Under-7 Girls category at the 12th National School Chess Championship in 2024 and consistently topped district and state-level events.

Anvi’s achievements have captured the nation’s admiration. On her return flight to India, she received an in-flight ovation after the airline captain announced her victories to fellow passengers—a moment that reflected the pride her success has inspired. Chess officials have praised her composure, strategic thinking, and disciplined training, calling her a role model for young players across the country.

With her sharp mind and unwavering determination, Anvi now turns her attention to the upcoming World Cup Chess Championship in Georgia and the FIDE World Cadet Championship in Kazakhstan later this year—steps that could further elevate her standing on the global stage.
