Bengaluru Becomes India’s AI Leader in Global City Rankings

Bengaluru has emerged as the top Indian city in the global AI rankings, securing the 26th position in the newly released 2025 AI City Index. This recognition highlights its growing status as a major hub for artificial intelligence research, development, and data infrastructure.

The index, compiled by a global research firm, examined thousands of AI-related initiatives worldwide. Bengaluru led among Indian cities, followed by Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, and Kolkata. While none of the Indian cities made it into the top 20 globally, Bengaluru’s steady progress puts it firmly on the global AI map.

Singapore claimed the top global position, praised for its collaborative approach between the government and private sector, especially in AI applications across healthcare, telecom, and transportation. Seoul, Beijing, Dubai, and San Francisco followed closely, each showing significant advancements in their AI ecosystems.

Beijing recently took a bold step by announcing mandatory AI education for all school children starting this year. Seoul has integrated AI deeply into healthcare and education, pushing its global ranking even higher.

Back in India, cities like Mumbai and Delhi are experimenting with AI in traffic management and public safety, which could help them climb future rankings. However, experts stress that India must invest more in infrastructure and build a clearer roadmap for AI development to remain competitive globally.

Despite the challenges, Bengaluru continues to attract major AI investments and talent. Tech giants like Microsoft, Google, and Amazon are expanding their presence, offering training programs and setting up innovation centers. Bengaluru was also named one of the world’s fastest-growing AI cities, alongside Riyadh, Hangzhou, and São Paulo.
