Saint Premanand Maharaj Receives Death Threat After Viral Moral Commentary

Vrindavan-based spiritual leader Saint Premanand Maharaj has come under threat following a viral video where he urged youth to adopt a disciplined and moral lifestyle. A young man from Satna, identified as Shatrughan Singh, responded with a chilling Facebook comment, alleging, “If he had spoken about my household—even if it was Premanand or anyone else—I would have slit his throat.”

The post rapidly spread across social media, sparking outrage among devotees and Hindu organizations in regions such as Satna and Rewa. Religious leaders, including Dinesh Falari Baba and Mahant Ramdas Maharaj, strongly condemned the threat and demanded swift legal action. Falari Baba proclaimed that the saint community was ready to protect Premanand Maharaj at all costs.

The controversy stems from the saint’s viral video in which he criticized the increasing prevalence of “boyfriend–girlfriend culture,” breakups, and perceived moral decay among young people. His remarks resonated with many followers but also drew anger from some viewers, leading to the violent reaction from the accused.

Authorities have neither received an official complaint nor registered formal legal proceedings yet, although police officials have stated that investigation and action under Section 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code would follow if a complaint is filed.

The case underscores the sensitive intersection of religious speech, moral commentary, and public discourse. It also highlights the increasing potential for conflict—sometimes violent—when spiritual guidance meets divergent societal views. As of now, devout supporters of Premanand Maharaj continue to stand firm in his defense while awaiting formal steps from law enforcement.
